Application deadline: February 13, Each year, countries that are un- or under-represented in the United Nations, are invited to take part in the United Nations Young Professionals Program. The following benefits are outlined under the said program: Salary and Post adjustments Rental subsidy if newly arrived at the duty station your rent represents too high proportion of the total remuneration.

Under certain conditions an education grant if you have eligible children in school. Travel and shipping expenses when you are moving from one duty station to another. Assignment grant to assist you in meeting initial extraordinary costs when arriving at or relocating to a new duty station. At some duty stations, a hardship allowance linked to living and working conditions is paid and where there are restrictions on bringing family members, a non-family hardship allowance is also paid.

Once selected, candidates will be offered a two-year fixed term contract at a P-1 or P-2 level with the UN Secretariat. After two years in their first function and subject to satisfactory performance, the young professionals may be granted a continuing contract.

They will also be invited to participate in the Managed Reassignment Programme MRP , which offers them the opportunity to be reassigned to another position of interest to them, normally in a different department and duty station. The objective of this programme is to provide staff with new opportunities to diversify and develop their career, to acquire new skills and to create a solid foundation for their career advancement. Application Process The YPP examination is held once a year and is open to nationals of countries that are un- or under-represented in the United Nations. The basic application criteria for candidates include: Must be a national of a participating country; Must hold at least a first-level university degree relevant for the exam subject; Must be 32 years old or younger in the year of the exam; and Must be fluent in English or French.

Examination Structure The examination process consists of a written and an oral stage. There is no expectation of being selected for a regular staff position; JPOs may apply for such positions as any other external candidate and go through the regular competitive selection process of the UN.
