A person who can keep a plant healthy is sometimes said to have a "green thumb". Their thumb doesn't really turn green, though. That's just a nickname that is given so that the rest of us know that they are able to keep plants alive. People usually don't have beds in their living rooms, so that isn't a chore that is done in the living room in most cases.

Chores do need to be done to keep the house clean, though. These little jobs don't usually take much time, and can be done in one session. Things like vacuuming, dusting, straightening cushions and mats, putting away toys, and washing windows are all small chores that may be done in a living room.

In the living room, shelves usually hold books, figurines, plants, or other small decorative things. An ottoman is a footstool, designed to rest the feet on when you are sitting on another piece of furniture. Sometimes, they are hollow with a lid, like a box for storage. A love seat is a piece of furniture that is designed for two people to sit on. Fans are usually powered by electricity.

They quickly turn to create an air current that helps to cool the people who are in the room. Fans are sometimes mounted on the ceiling, but they can also be smaller, and designed to stand on the floor or a tabletop, or even smaller to be held in your hand. Fans can also be found in other rooms in the house like bedrooms and kitchens. Wind chimes can be hung in windows, but they are designed to be in open windows.

This lets the wind through to make their sounds, but it also lets the sun shine in.
